The Ministry of Health reported that “in Chile today 868 new cases of COVID-19 are reported with 1.5% positivity compared to 60,086 PCR tests and antigen tests reported in the last 24 hours. Compared to the last 14 days, in all regions of the country, infections are decreasing, achieving a decrease of -34%,” he said.
Seven days later, the authority added, “the variation in new confirmed cases nationwide is -19% with 12 regions decreasing their cases. In the same period, the only regions with an increase in new confirmed cases are the regions of Magallanes, Antofagasta and Tarapacá.” On the incidence, he said that “the region of Los Ríos has the highest current rate per 100 thousand inhabitants, followed by Tarapacá, Atacama and Araucanía”
On the positivity of the tests, Minister Paris explained that “the positivity rate of cases by PCR in the last 24 hours is 1.5% and the average of the last 7 days is 1.6%. Where according to sample collection, the regions with the highest positivity of cases by average PCR in the last 7 days are: Los Ríos, Metropolitana, Araucanía and Valparaíso”
“We must continue to strengthen self-care measures. The decrease in cases during the last weeks, together with an average positivity of less than 2% in the last 7 days at the national level are positive results but these must be accompanied by prevention to avoid new cases, “said the Health Authority to which it was emphatic in pointing out that “that is why you have to use the mask well, maintain physical distance, wash hands often, and ventilate enclosed spaces to reduce the risk of people catching or transmitting the virus. If we all get vaccinated and comply with self-care measures, we give the virus less chance of finding unprotected people,” concluded Health Minister Enrique Paris.
Of the 868 new cases of COVID-19, 452 are symptomatic and 270 have no symptoms. In addition, there were 146 positive PCR tests that were not reported.
The total number of people who have been diagnosed with COVID-19 in the country stands at 1,623,363. Of this total, 6,379 patients are in the active stage. The recovered cases are 1,579,137.
As for the deaths, according to the information provided by the DEIS, in the last 24 hours there were 65 deaths from causes associated with COVID-19. The total number of deaths in the country is 36,016.
To date, 1,125 people are hospitalized in intensive care units, of which 943 are supported by mechanical ventilation. With regard to the Integrated Health Network, there are a total of 555 critical beds available for the patient who requires it, regardless of the region where they are located.
Regarding the Network of Laboratories and the diagnostic capacity, yesterday the results of 60,086 PCR and antigen tests were reported, reaching to date a total of 19,103,399 analyzed nationwide. The positivity for the last 24 hours at the country level is 1.54% and in the Metropolitan Region it is 2%.
With regard to the Health Residences, we have 156 accommodation facilities, with 12,719 total beds. The actual occupancy nationwide is 34%, leaving a total of 6,582 beds available for use.
