translated from Spanish: Construction of the Site Museum of the Archaeological Zone of Xochitécatl in Tlaxcala begins

Tlaxcala, Mexico. As a testimony of the female cult in the pre-Hispanic era is how it seeks to project in the new Site Museum of the Archaeological Zone of Xochitécatl in Tlaxcala, work that began its construction with the laying of the first stone by the state authorities and culture. The Secretary of Culture of the Government of Mexico, Alejandra Frausto Guerrero, in the company of the governor of the state of Tlaxcala, Marco Antonio Mena Rodríguez, and the general director of the National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH), Diego Prieto Hernández, laid the first stone of the new Site Museum of the Archaeological Zone of Xochitécatl, whose construction is expected to be completed next December. Frausto Guerrero, said that the museum site will allow to show, with a clear narrative, the archaeological pieces that have been found in Xochitécatl, which are, for the most part, dedicated to the figure of women.” This place will become an extraordinary symbol. We are honoring that wisdom, what was described, the strength it deserves and will have,” adding: “Never again out of history women, never again out of memory Xochitécatl.” The governor of Tlaxcala, Marco Antonio Mena, stressed that this action materializes the commitment that was made to improve this archaeological zone. This will be for the benefit of the communities.” In Nativitas it will help us a lot that we can have the site museum renovated in Xochitécatl and we can look for the dumbbell with Cacaxtla”. He added: “Archaeological sites are a very important source of well-being for communities. I’m very pleased that we can have a site museum of this caliber.” In turn, the general director of INAH, Diego Prieto Hernández, said that the decision to create a new museum for this archaeological zone, was taken considering “its antiquity, the exceptional relevance with which it addresses the condition of women in the pre-Hispanic era and the need to offer better conditions of exhibition and access; ” the construction of this new museum, he said, will give a greater shine and projection to this area and to the archaeological vestiges rescued in it and, of course, to Tlaxcala, to its long history and deep roots”. The ceremony was also attended by the director of the INAH Tlaxcala Center, José Vicente de la Rosa Herrera; the president of the Council of Archaeology, Laura Ledesma Gallegos; the owner of the Archaeological Zone of Xochitécatl, Yajaira Mariana Gómez García, and authorities of the municipality of Nativitas. The new museographic and administrative building, of 290 square meters, with permanent and temporary exhibition rooms, will benefit not only the exhibitions, but the research of the site, since the project includes the conservation of the Pyramid of The Spiral and actions of general improvement in Xochitécatl.Likewise, infrastructure will be built for the public visit and the operation of the archaeological zone, which allow the appropriate conditions of administration, security and protection of the cultural heritage, in addition to taking advantage of the service unit as a complement to the new museum. The project, which will have an investment of 9 million pesos (7 million for museum infrastructure and 2 million for research), aims to highlight one of the main spaces that testify to the female worship in pre-Hispanic times, represented in the multiple offerings of women’s figurines found on the site, and its importance as one of the oldest settlements in the valley of Tlaxcala-Puebla.El Centro INAH Tlaxcala reports that, due to the construction works of the site museum, the Archaeological Zone of Xochitécatl remains closed to the public from August 3 until December, when the museographic building is completed. Meanwhile, you can visit the Archaeological Zone of Cacaxtla, which will remain open from Wednesday to Saturday, from 10:00 to 16:00 hours, following strict sanitary protocols.
