Hurricane ‘Grace’, Category 1, made landfall early Thursday morning south of Tulum, Quintana Roo.
At 4:45 a.m., ‘Grace’ entered the national territory with maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometers per hour, reported the National Water Commission (Conagua).

In a statement, Conagua reported that over the course of this Thursday, ‘Grace’ will be downgraded to a tropical storm as it moves over Yucatan; however, during the night it will enter the Gulf of Mexico where it will again intensify to a Category 1 hurricane, a force with which it will impact again, this time off the coast of Veracruz.

The governor of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez, reported that so far the Federal Electricity Commission (CFE) reports at the moment 84 thousand users without electricity in Cancun and 65 thousand in Playa del Carmen, Cozumel and Tulum.

The rains could cause increased levels of rivers and streams, and flooding in low-lying areas, so the population of the aforementioned states and maritime navigation are urged to heed the warnings of the Service
National Meteorological (SMN) of Conagua and follow the indications of the state, municipal and Civil Protection authorities.

Authorities in Quintana Roo issued a red alert for the municipalities of Felipe Carrillo Puerto, Tulum, Solidaridad, Puerto Morelos, Benito Juarez, Lazaro Cardenas, Isla Mujeres and Cozumel.
The municipalities of José María Morelos, Othón P. Blanco and Bacalar are on orange alert, of high danger.
