The Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation (TEPJF) convened a private session to elect the new president, after the crisis caused by the dismissal of Judge José Luis Vargas Valdez on August 4.
According to a document, published by Judge Vargas himself, the presiding magistrate for the Ministry of Law, Felipe Alfredo Fuentes Barrera, issued the call for this Thursday, September 2 at 10 in the morning.
However, former President Vargas Valdez called for the session to be held publicly.

“Since it is a subject of the greatest relevance and importance for the institutional life of this court and that, due to the events that have been developing in recent dates related to it, it has become a matter of national interest, as well as for the sake of transparency against the citizens that must exist in this type of decisions, I would like to request you in the most attentive way that this session by videoconference be of a public nature,” he said in a letter.

On August 9, José Luis Vargas ceded the position of the Presidency of the Superior Chamber, after most of his colleagues dismissed him.
In a statement, he acknowledged the lack of consensus during his administration, which he described as correct on issues of transparency and proper management of public resources.
“I recognize that my Presidency has not managed to generate the necessary consensus within this Plenary. I have decided to give in to the presidency for those who — among my peers — have the qualities to promote the agreements and the union that this institution currently requires.
On the same day that the magistrates dismissed Vargas, the opposition group asked that a point be included in the public session to evaluate the performance of Vargas’ presidency, a request that he rejected to the point of decreeing the suspension of the session, which triggered the crisis within the Electoral Tribunal.
