Of the 950 people in pretrial detention included in the nominal list, 898 were able to cast their vote, a level of 94% participation, according to a report by the National Human Rights Commission (CNDH).
The document analyzed the Model of Operation of the Vote of Persons in Preventive Detention with information from five Federal Centers for Social Readaptation (Ceferesos) in Sonora, Guanajuato, Chiapas, Morelos and Michoacán.
According to the report, of the votes cast, 141 were cast by women and 757 by men, while 52 unprocessed people decided not to cast their vote on June 6. Meanwhile, only 21 votes were annulled.
18 states recorded 100% turnout, and 12 more recorded at least one or more cases of people who did not vote; Yucatan and Campeche did not participate in the exercise.
The entities that registered the most votes were Guanajuato, with 149; Chihuahua, 136; and Sonora, 115. Mexico City reported 33, while the State of Mexico 59.
The report also gives several recommendations to contemplate a greater participation of the population in pretrial detention in the country, ahead of the 2024 elections.
