Mauricio Macri’s lawyer, Pablo Lanusse, reported on Wednesday that the former president was notified of the investigation to which he was called for the alleged illegal espionage of the relatives of the victims of the ARA San Juan, but anticipated that he will not attend because he is outside the country. The former head of state was due to appear today in the court of Dolores. In statements to LN+, the lawyer complained: “Judge Bava set the inquiry last Friday. For 90 days he had time to listen and allow the accused to defend themselves. However, President (sic) Macri, who was public and notorious that he was out of the country, notifies an untimely audience with three working days in between.” The former prosecutor denounced a “political persecution” against the opposition leader and confirmed, as expected, since the leader of Together for Change has been abroad for some days, that he will not appear. “No one can be in two places at the same time,” he said. Anyway, he clarified that this does not imply that Macri is not “right,” since, he explained, the notification gives him three working days to appoint a defense lawyer. He sets the inquiry for tomorrow but gives him three days to appoint a defender. It is a paradox and an outrage that shows the lack of serenity and temperance” of Judge Bava, said the lawyer. He added: “It seems that he wants to sacrifice the rights of defense in trial.”
