Shrimp boats take refuge in Topolobampo by “Pamela”

Topolobampo, Sinaloa.- The first 80 larger boats took refuge in the port of Topolobampo, Ahome, to avoid problems due to the strong winds caused by Hurricane Pamela, reported port captain Jesús López Contreras. He commented that they expected approximately 300 larger boats to arrive, because that number of boats were with the capture of shrimp; however, many chose to take refuge in other ports or continue with the activity further north where there will be no effects of Hurricane Pamela, he said. Likewise, the captain said that in the coming hours they expect more shrimp farmers to arrive, because on the high seas there will be strong winds that could seriously affect the boats and above all put the lives of the fishermen at risk.” The port closed to navigation last Monday at 22:00 hours; however, all boats that want to reach Topolobampo can do so since they are authorized to do so,” he said. López Contreras said that they already have a strategy in place in case many ships arrive to accommodate them in the port, because about 300 ships were expected, but there is only a record of 80 ships, however, it is understood that many shrimp farmers will arrive gradually depending on the distance they are.
