AMLO calls on WHO to accelerate certification of all COVID vaccines

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador called on the World Health Organization (WHO) to approve the certification of all COVID-19 vaccines that have proven to be safe and effective.
He affirmed that the WHO must act with rectitude, without political or ideological tendencies, but in adherence to science.
He noted that pharmaceutical companies around the world have delivered vaccines that proved their effectiveness, did not generate any health problems and saved lives.

“Let the WHO hurry, because it has been in the process for a long time and there are vaccines that still do not have authorization, that have been applied and have saved life, and most importantly there is no report in the world that have caused harm.
“He has to act with rectitude, without political or ideological tendencies with attachment to science,” he said in his morning lecture.

López Obrador asked why they are not given the certification? Why haven’t they come out to argue that these vaccines are not suitable or convenient? why so much delay?; he pointed out that it is a human rights issue, universal and that who must act impartially.

Following the announcement of the opening of the U.S. land border with Mexico to travelers vaccinated against COVID-19 in November, Foreign Minister Marcelo Ebrard said that the U.S. will admit vaccines approved by the World Health Organization (WHO).
He said that before he only accepted those made in the United States, but “today it is no longer so.”
WHO has licensed vaccines from Pfizer/BioNTech, AstraZeneca/Oxford, Janssen, Moderna, Sinopharm and Sinovac. Sputnik-V and CanSinoBio are pending.
