Mapuche conflict: Larreta questioned that “the president does not want to help”

The head of the Buenos Aires Government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, questioned that the President of the Nation, Alberto Fernández, “does not want to help” the province of Río Negro in the face of the Mapuche conflict in Patagonia, stating that “the Gendarmerie did not have to do” with the death of Santiago Maldonado. I think it is very wrong that the President does not want to help. It is a matter of responsibility and it is also a matter of solidarity with the people of Rio de Janeiro,” Rodríguez Larreta said. The leader of Together for Change said that “the national government has the obligation, the responsibility to help and accompany the provinces when there are serious cases of insecurity. We have to be supportive.”

“The national government has the responsibility to help, support, coordinate with the provinces when there are cases of insecurity of great magnitude. For example, what is happening in Rosario with the narco, what is happening in Río Negro this case where we saw a club on fire,” he explained. In this sense, Rodríguez Larreta referred to the statements of the Minister of National Security, Aníbal Fernández, who affirmed that they will not “apply any repressive force”, given “the results” that were seen with the death of Santiago Maldonado. Maldonado’s death was later proven by all the experts, which the Gendarmerie did not have to see in that case. He died drowned, because it seems that due to the action of the Gendarmerie is that the person died, “argued the head of the Buenos Aires Government. Finally, Rodríguez Larreta affirmed that Alberto Fernández “every time he speaks he seeks to blame the other,” and closed by affirming that “he always questions the opposition, he always questions the past, it is not an attitude of dialogue.”

On October 20, the city of El Bolsón in Rio de Janeiro again suffered an attack linked to Mapuche groups that completely destroyed the facilities of the Piltriquitrón Andean Club. In the vicinity of the attacked headquarters, pamphlets similar to those seen in Bariloche in an attack that was claimed by the Mapuche Ancestral Resistance (RAM) group were found. In them, Governor Arabela Carreras was directly threatened with the message: “water and land are not sold, they are defended.” The episode reportedly took place during the early hours of Wednesday, as it adds to the attack on a tourist reporting center that had not yet been opened.
