A night with pure animal instinct: this is how María Becerra’s show was lived

“We invite you to let yourself go and enjoy the return of live music,” a woman said into the microphone minutes before the show began. At least that’s how it was for me: the first face-to-face recital since the beginning of the pandemic. With some nerves and emotion, after two years I felt again the adrenaline of the anxious applause of the public, of the warm night that gives clues to the fire that will be lived on stage, the sale of t-shirts, hats and posters of the artist -and also, of course, some masks-. So sure it was for many, and the one chosen to relive all that ritual was none other than María Becerra.

From Quilmes, South Zone, she is the daughter of parents dedicated to medicine. Far from that field, she took art classes in all its forms since she was a child. Everything he learned he channeled in his adolescence through videos that he began to upload to Facebook and Youtube, either some covers, tutorials or creating varied content for his followers who did not stop growing. Captivated by the world of the internet and the success it reaped, she was encouraged to pursue her dream of music and see what happened. Today, at the age of 21, she is the most listened to Argentine artist in the history of Spotify, with an album published and with great collaborations with other artists of the urban scene such as Rusherking, Duki, Khea, Tiago PZK or Lit Killah.

“Animal Tour” ended at the Gran Rivadavia Theater with more than 20 sold out shows during the last two months. During the year, while the vaccines against the coronavirus advanced and the return of the recitals was normalized, like many María gave some presentations via streaming. The first time he gave a live show was on October 22, although in September he had debuted on stage with Mau and Ricky with “Mal Acostumbrao”: “I had never experienced this! Singing with people is a beautiful thing,” he said on Twitter. From that day on he tried to give his all every time he got on stage, or so he felt during last night’s show. With its fans in pure glitters and cell phone cameras ready to record, the preview had the entire audience sitting waiting for the signal. When the singer appeared on stage to kick off the show with “High,” the single that has a remix with Tini Stoessel and Lola Indigo, she said, “I know you know, I want you all standing still.” Without more words, everyone left their seats to start singing one of the songs that led her to fame and that became a classic.

And if we talk about that, we can not miss “Tu Lady”, from his first EP “222” (2019), along with “Nada de amor” and “Dime cómo hago”. A year later he would follow “Tú me lo haces fácil”, already under the label of 300 Entertainment, which he performed during the Buenos Aires night on Friday. In 2021 he surprised with part one of his first album, “Animal”, with songs like “Acaramelao” that he also sang for his fans in Floresta, this time with a more complete staging that in addition to the band and choristers adds dancers. ” I notice them re-on, I like that a lot,” said the artist between pauses and pauses before starting to present part two of her album, which has collaborations such as Danny Ocean (‘No eres tú soy yo’), Becky G (‘Wow wow’), Tiago PZK (‘Cázame’) and who were protagonists of the night. Although they were not present with her in the review of each of the songs, she was not alone: her fans were in charge of chanting each verse. Even those he has with his partner, the musician Thomas Tobar -AKA Rusherking-, who also did his thing at the Broadway Theater a few weeks ago and in Filo.News we tell you in this note.

Officially “What else then?” did they all know. The single he has with J Balvin has more than 370 million views on Youtube and continues to climb. Among other songs he has with international artists, in addition to those included in his album, we can highlight “En tu cuerpo (remix)” with Lyanno, Rauw Alejandro and Lenny Tavárez; FMK’s “AYNEA (Remix)” with Beret; “BOBO” with Bad Gyal and Mariah Angelicq; “Si yo fuera tú” with Paty Cantú; and the recent “Los Tragos” with Reik, although none of those were included in the tracklist of the night. In the middle of the show all the lights went out and there was only one spotlight illuminating Maria in the middle of the stage, vulnerable, sensitive. That’s how she is: anyone who listens to her interviews, sees her live or follows her on social networks can attest to the sweetness, tenderness and transparency that highlight her and that she transmits through her lyrics. Therefore, next to the party and perreo coexisted spaces of intimacy, where the singer opened her heart with songs like “Episodes” or “Perdidamente”, with the cameras of the cell phones like stars illuminating the sea of voices that accompanied her under the stage.

“I think it is very important to normalize this when it happens, and that there is less and less fear for these situations because of what one feels,” he said before “Hypnotizá”, where he sings to love for another woman: ‘Know’ that today I am going to do it in your own way, girl, I am already hypnotized ‘by your hip’, he prays on the subject and continues: ‘Let there be no sound other than that of our frequency, she undresses, I am her audience.’

In this block there was no lack of the turn of “My weakness”, produced by Big One. “This song is very special for me, I wrote it in a very hard moment, I wrote it with total feeling, I was very excited, in fact many times we had to stop the recording because I broke down in tears. Every song I write I compose with all my heart, and when I give you a song I’m really giving part of me, I’m unfolding before you and telling you what I feel, thank you for listening to me,” she said moved before singing ‘I don’t know how to overcome you, tell me how to do pa not think about you, I still can’t forgive you, but I’m dying to go find you’. With a brief pause in between, he started all of them dancing again; but it was not only those bombs that took over the rankings and playlists, but it also gave rise to those perhaps a little more undervalued songs of his album such as “A while ago”, “A solas” or “Cerquita de ti”, which supposedly would be the only one. But the audience’s request for ‘one more’ brought Maria back on stage: “We’re going to go upstay to give them one more, or several more. The party is just beginning,” he said.

The final stage of the night was “Dime cómo hago”, which had a special surprise: she invited one of her fans to take the stage and sing with her one of her first songs. “He’s Dani, I want a loud applause for him,” the singer said as she hugged him. Followed were his last hits such as “Miénteme”, one of the hits of the summer with Tini, to this time definitively close the recital with “Animal”, which bears the name of the album and that he interprets with Cazzu. ‘La nena de Argentina’ proved to be one of the great exponents within the new generation of the urban scene. In her lyrics Maria sings to female empowerment, to love, she leaves her feelings in each piece, a mixture of animal instinct full of sweetness at the same time where the goal was to have fun. That was what it felt like last night and, also, just what I needed to relive in my first recital after two years of pandemic.
