AMLO accuses that CIDE was “right-wing” as the UNAM

The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, affirmed that the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE) “right-wing”, as did the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM).
When questioned about the controversy existing in the process of appointing the new director general of CIDE, in which a “lack of cleansing” and an imposition by the director of the National Council of Science and Technology (Conacyt) are accused, AMLO said that the selection must be made in accordance with the established rules, that it is necessary that all processes are taken care of and that the “chiefdoms in the academy and groups” are ended. intellectuals.”
Faced with the proposals of the CIDE student community and the possibility of opening a new process for the renewal of the director, he stressed that “we must see who is there because maybe it is from the groups of Krauze and Aguilar Camín who monopolized everything and were involved everywhere, and they are the ones who were dissatisfied.”

López Obrador recalled and recognized the economist and first director of CIDE, Horacio Flores de la Peña for his social commitment and accused that study center of now aligning itself with neoliberal politics.
He also pointed out that his graduates did not “rise to the occasion” in the face of what he described as “the greatest looting” that the country faced during the neoliberal period.

Regarding the accusations against María Elena Álvarez-Buylla, director of Conacyt, she said that she “is an honest, upright woman, she is not like them, she is not neoliberal, she is not corrupt, like most intellectuals and academics.”

Students demonstrate against
This Monday the new director of CIDE will be appointed, which caused a call to be launched over social networks over the weekend to demonstrate from 7 in the morning and take over the facilities.
The school authorities sent an email announcing that both CIDE headquarters would remain closed, but this did not prevent that with banners and tarpaulins, the students demonstrated outside the center, rejecting the possible ratification of José Antonio Romero Tallaeche.
