Desaira Álvarez-Buylla dialogue at CIDE; teachers and students will march

After the director of Conacyt, María Elena Álvarez-Buylla, did not appear at the dialogue table at the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE) to which she was summoned, the academic, student and union community of the research center called to participate in a mobilization in defense of the research center.
“The CIDE community wants and must be heard (…) this morning we await the presence of Dr. Álvarez-Buylla to have that dialogue, however, her absence shows that the authorities of Conacyt have once again ignored the voice of the community,” read Jean Meyer, professor emeritus of the history division of CIDE on behalf of the Permanent Academic Assembly.
“Given this null disposition, the Permanent Academic Assembly, attentively requests the authorities of the Ministry of the Interior to establish a space for dialogue and dialogue to listen to the demands of the Permanent Academic Assembly, the student movement and the unions.”

The request for support from the Ministry of the Interior, they stressed, aims to find a solution route to restore the legality of the decision-making processes of the CIDE, including the process of appointing the director general and restore the conditions to resume academic life in an institution free of intimidation and threats.

While the Ministry of the Interior responds to the request made by the CIDE community, this Saturday students, teachers and workers will march to the offices of Conacyt.

“We call on academic institutions, student communities and society in general to a march this Saturday, December 4 at 10 a.m., from Parque Hundido to Conacyt, to demand that the authority responsible for conducting scientific policy adhere to legality,” they reported.

This demonstration is part of the actions in defense of CIDE led by professors and students after the appointment of José Antonio Romero Tellaeche as general director of the research center.

Likewise, the Permanent Academic Assembly reiterated its solidarity with the student movement that has taken over the CIDE facilities since Monday, November 29.
“We reiterate our solidarity with the student movement and demand that their rights and physical integrity and their demand for a horizontal dialogue be respected at all times. We repudiate the acts of harassment and intimidation by Conacyt, as well as by the personnel recently hired by the general management,” they said.
