In CDMX there is no alarm by variant Ómicron: Sheinbaum

In Mexico City, there is no alarm indicator due to an increase in the number of people infected with COVID due to the presence of the Ómicron variant, informed the head of Government, Claudia Sheinbaum.
He added that, so far, no indicator indicates that COVID cases are increasing; even, he said, there is a reduction in the number of people hospitalized.
“We do not have, so far, any indicators that alarm us in terms of the increase in the number of people who are entering hospitals; in fact, it stabilized for a few weeks and, in the last two weeks, although it is smaller, there is a reduction in the number of people who are entering hospitals every day and, in the same way, the number of people hospitalized,” he said.

After the federal Ministry of Health confirmed that the first case of the ómicron variant was registered in the country and that the patient is hospitalized in a hospital in Mexico City, Sheinbaum said that, if there is an indicator that at any time alarms, the number of kiosks to perform tests will increase.
He assured that the same epidemiological surveillance continues to be in place, since the first day of the pandemic, in coordination with all health institutions, and the daily review of the indicators.

Vaccine, fundamental protection against COVID variants
The local health secretary, Oliva López Arellano, called on the population to continue vaccinating, because, she said, “it is the fundamental protection against all variants of COVID-19.”
In the presence of the first case of Ómicron, he said that some activities are reinforced, such as genomic surveillance and the samples that are being sent to the National Institute of Genomic Medicine (Inmegen) for sequencing.
“It is very important to know that against all variants we are protected with the vaccine against serious, very serious conditions and the risk of death,” he said at a press conference.
COVID situation in the city
Mexico City will continue at a green epidemiological traffic light due to COVID, informed the general director of Digital Government at the Digital Agency for Public Innovation, Eduardo Clark.
He explained that in Mexico City there are 409 hospitalized patients, which represents a reduction of 83 fewer people than last week. The average daily hospital admission is 30 cases.
He added that the cases detected in kiosks are 92 cases on average daily.

Clark reported that 233,452 people aged 15 to 17 without comorbidities in Mexico City have been vaccinated, representing a 61% advance of the target, but coverage of between 91 and 94% is expected by Saturday.
He added that vaccination of stragglers, first and second doses will continue next week, and will include adolescents 15 to 17 years old without comorbidities.
