BC Prosecutor Resigns over New Governor’s ‘Political Changes’

Baja California Attorney General Guillermo Ruiz Hernandez resigned Tuesday after two years in office.
The official resigned at an event in Tijuana in which Governor Marina del Pilar Ávila was present, who at the end gave him recognition “for his tireless and outstanding work in the fight for security and peace in Baja California.”
Ruiz Hernández – who began his administration during the government of Jaime Bonilla and in which he would be 3 more years – said that everything he did was to have a better state. 

In a subsequent conference, Ruiz Hernández said that the political change that the state is experiencing motivated him to resign from office, which he will formally leave on December 10.

He added that the governor has a different security strategy, which is to create a Security Secretariat. 

“When someone rules, someone has to give in, the prosecutor or the secretary of security, it is something that I have seen in other entities of the country, because both must go hand in hand, coordination is fundamental and that is the risk that is run when creating the new Secretariat of Security and Citizen Protection,” he explained.
The former prosecutor highlighted the reduction in homicides in his two years in office, said that of the 200 to 300 homicides per month are now counted approximately 100.

According to the weekly Zeta, the prosecutor leaves his position at a time of security crisis in the five municipalities of Baja California. So far this year, homicides have already totaled more than 2,780. 
On Tuesday morning, during the event, the prosecutor published his resignation letter, dated Tuesday and addressed to the governor. 
According to Zeta, Ruiz Hernández sent a similar letter addressed to the state Congress, since it was this body that elected him and before which he must resign.
