CIDE students demand dialogue; until they deliver campus: Conacyt

Students from the Center for Economic Research and Teaching (CIDE) set up a table at the doors of the Conacyt headquarters, south of Mexico City, to ask its owner Elena Álvarez-Bullya to leave her office and comply with the dialogue she has promised them.
“We are here to demonstrate all the openness of the dialogue that we have as a community, we are accompanied by media, teachers, authorities, administrative staff, this is important to mention because our movement is student but the crisis we face as students is an institutional crisis that affects us all as a community,” said the students in their positioning before the media.

In it, they gave an account of how the attempts at dialogue between Conacyt and the CIDE students have passed. They recalled that although Álvarez-Bullya had said that he would dialogue with the students on Thursday 9, the appointment had to be moved to Friday because the head of Conacyt asked that it be carried out without means, without academics and that the letter of non-retaliation against the unemployed students would be drafted by Conacyt.
That is why the students asked that the dialogue be held one day to analyze the conditions of Conacyt.

Faced with the demand for dialogue, Conacyt responded through a document that an unidentified person delivered at the table to the students that “trying to impose, unilaterally and without prior notice, the installation of a table on public roads does not correspond to the commitments acquired last Tuesday, December 8, with the holders of Conacyt and CIDE.”
In the response, Álvarez-Bullya pointed out that the installation of the table has an interest in media exposure rather than conflict resolution and real dialogue.
He reiterated his exhortation to the students to release the CIDE facilities, taken since November 29, 2021. He said that once the facilities are delivered, serious, responsible and in-depth dialogue tables will be established.

The dialogue has stalled between both parties due to the conditioning by Conacyt to deliver the facilities first, and the refusal of Álvarez Buylla to remove Romero Tellaeche, and reiterated to the director their invitation to dialogue without conditions.
On November 29, in an extraordinary session of the CIDE Board of Directors and in which it was not put to a vote, Álvarez-Buylla appointed José Antonio Romero Tellaeche as general director of CIDE.

The decision that was made without listening to the voice of the students and in which the internal auscultation that revealed less teaching support for the economist was also ignored, caused the anger and annoyance of the students who peacefully took over the facilities of the CIDE Santa Fe.
Since that day, both teachers and students have summoned the director of Conacyt and Romero Tellaeche to a dialogue table, however, their calls had been ignored.
