Mercado Libre and the expansion of its logistics network throughout Chile

A few days before the end of 2021, the e-commerce company Mercado Libre announces the details of its logistics network, which has experienced accelerated growth in recent months. The pandemic increased the rise of e-commerce and generated a rise in the demand for online shopping. And although the entire supply and logistics chain was highly demanded, mercado Libre believes it has been doing things right: more than 90% of its packages are being delivered to their destination in less than 48 hours and even more than half in 24 hours.” The success of Mercado Libre lies in the experience we deliver to the consumer. Thanks to Mercado Envíos, we have managed to live up to the demands of our users, arriving in a timely manner throughout Chile. Thus, we reduce the geographical gap, bring products with quality and speed, and continue to democratize e-commerce, so that everyone has access to the same benefits, “says Jorge Nazarala, senior manager of Operations at Mercado Libre. In this way, they decided to open their first storage center in Chile, in the Metropolitan Region and later, zonal distribution centers in regions. The main difference between these two types of warehouses is that in the first there is storage of products, while in the second, the products pass directly from the arrival transport to the departure, speeding up their dispatch to the final destination. Today, Mercado Libre has 11 other distribution centers throughout Chile, and its own fleet of branded trucks and vans. This complete current network is the one that allows to offer shipments in 48 hours in multiple products and destinations, many of them even within the same day without paying over-prices, because shipments are free in purchases over $ 16,990. “In 2022 we will continue working for geographical inclusion, opening new wineries to always improve the standard. We are convinced that the best is yet to come, and we hope to build the largest logistics network in all of Chile,” concludes Nazarala.
