Due to poor air quality CDMX and Edomex activate pollution phase

The Environmental Commission of the Megalopolis (CAMe) activated the preventive phase for pollutants in the Valley of Mexico, after registering extremely poor air quality.
According to the commission’s report, this Saturday a value of 86 micrograms per cubic meter of PM2.5 particles (microns) was registered at the Santiago Acahualtepec station, in the Iztapalapa mayor’s office.

The CAMe attributed the increase in pollutants to the fact that during the night of December 24 and the early morning of this Saturday there were “extraordinary emissions generated mainly by the burning of pyrotechnics, bonfires and burning of other materials that increased the levels of pm2.5 pollution throughout the Southeast Zone of the Valley of Mexico, the same ones that tended to accumulate in the air.”
The areas where the prevention phase was activated will be in the mayor’s offices of Iztapalapa, Milpa Alta, Tláhuac, Xochimilco; and the municipalities of Amecameca, Atlautla, Ayapango, Chalco, Cocotitlán, Ecatzingo, Juchitepec, Ozumba, Temamatla, Tenango del Aire, Tepetlixpa, Tlalmanalco and Valle de Chalco Solidaridad.
During the afternoon of December 25, authorities will evaluate the weather and air quality conditions in the Valley of Mexico.

Among the recommendations of the authorities are:
Avoid doing civic, cultural, recreational or outdoor exercise activities at any time of the day.
Do not smoke especially in enclosed spaces.
Reduce the generation and exposure to particles when indoors, not by lighting candles or burning firewood, charcoal or other materials.
Do not burn materials or waste, including burns made for training and training of personnel.
Reduce the use of the private vehicle and use the public transport service.
