The distance between the earth and the moon is 384,400 kilometers. Grupo Coppel’s infrastructure for freight delivery allows it to execute 283 first-mile and 3,000 last-mile routes daily and both add up to 60 million kilometers traveled per year, that is, the equivalent of 156 trips to the moon, one trip every 2 days, approximately.
The logistics to make these tours allow Grupo Coppel to make around 50,000 daily deliveries directly to homes, which is equivalent to almost all of the households reported by Inegi in 2020 in the municipality of Guanajuato, Guanajuato (51,675), or a third of the households in Mazatlan, Sinaloa (152,884).
Behind all this effort is Angélica Bojórquez, who has worked at Coppel for 20 years and is currently the Director of Supply Chain.
Her work earned her the National Logistics Award 2021 Tameme Award, in the category of Executive, making her the first Sinaloan woman to obtain it.

Bojórquez has been part of the expansion of Grupo Coppel, which celebrates its 80th anniversary, but which in the last two decades went from having 100 stores to 1,600 thanks to the strengthening of the Supply Chain Division which has 23 national and import Distribution Centers, with a capacity of 1 million m2 of storage and 153 Cross Dock type CEDIs, in addition to an own fleet of 1927 units with daily available transport capacity of about 138,600 m3.
“At Coppel we have built and incorporated world-class capabilities into the supply chain, realizing the challenge of maintaining the supply chain as a competitive advantage for the Group; and thus be able to improve the lives of millions of customers throughout the country,” said Angélica Bojórquez.
The “Tameme Award” is the highest recognition that the Ministry of Communications and Transport and the Ministry of Economy give to industrial, commercial and service companies, logistics executives and service providers in this area that promote best practices, in order to be more competitive nationally and internationally.
The recognition, which is granted for the first time to Grupo Coppel, is the result of innovation and quality in the omnichannel service offered by Coppel in its more than 1,600 stores, in its e-commerce store Coppel.com and in the Coppel App.
Coppel has sufficient coverage to offer its home delivery services to 93% of the Mexican population, as well as delivery routes that cover 90% of the country’s zip codes. Therefore, the logistical work it does guarantees delivery to populations with less than 20,000 inhabitants, where no one else can deliver bulky items and this it does with an average delivery of 3.5 days.
Bojórquez’s achievements include the incorporation of the use of technology and innovation into its logistics processes, the creation of a data science area for Supply Chain that uses machine learning for the assignment of vehicles according to their age and engine characteristics, looking for the best performance, according to the topography, traffic and demand of the route.
It should also be noted that for its primary fleet, Coppel has a policy for primary transport drivers to return home to sleep every day. To achieve this, first-mile transport routes are designed considering a link point to change the box and have the same driver return to the origin.
The National Logistics Award 2021 Tameme Award, endorses the commitment of Grupo Coppel to maintain high quality standards and contribute to customers having a great shopping experience every day, both in stores and on digital platforms.
