INE rejects Morena’s prerogatives; was a political decision: Delgado

The National Electoral Institute (INE) rejected the return of 50% of Morena’s prerogatives, to support actions to address the pandemic. According to the agency, the impossibility of the decision was determined, since the resources had already been given to the party, which must make the request for the return of resources before this happens.

Through a statement, the INE indicated that once the parties receive their prerogatives, they become part of their patrimony, and the exercise of these resources is subject to the processes of the inspection that the Constitution and the Electoral Law foresee.
He also pointed out that the electoral councilors established the obligation to take into consideration the deductions for fines and penalties corresponding to the month prior to establishing the possible amount of resignation.
The resolution of the INE attends to a compliance of the Electoral Tribunal of the Judicial Power of the Federation, in which it requests the council to pronounce on a petition made by Morena, which intends to return an amount of public financing for the maintenance of its activities in fiscal year 2021.

However, the INE pointed out that the resources have already been deposited to the party, so these will be returned to the Treasury of the Federation once the audit process is concluded.
In this regard, the president counselor, Lorenzo Córdova, recalled that in 2020 Morena renounced 827 million pesos, and 252 million in 2021, “which shows that the route to timely reinstate its prerogatives is known.”

Rejection is a “political decision”: Delgado
After the refusal of the INE to accept the return by Morena, the national leader of the party, Mario Delgado, said that the decision of the electoral councilors is political and is not thought of the well-being of Mexicans.
“It is incredible that the Electoral Institute refuses to accept the return, even though there is no provision of law that prevents it. It is absurd for a party to want to return resources and not allow it. Morena wants to return more than 500 million pesos to help the government in the face of the extraordinary expenses of COVID 19 and they resist because it is a political decision rather than a legal one,” he said.

Delgado described as incongruous the resolution of the general council of the INE, and accused some electoral councilors of “opposing any initiative that comes from Morena”, because in 2018 they allowed Margarita Zavala to return 2.3 million pesos from her campaign to support the population for the earthquake.
“We want to return this money, first, because we do not share the idea of wasting resources in politics and second, because we know that this return can help the Mexican government a lot to face COVID 19,” he said.
