The state of Chihuahua will experience the Cold Front Number 28, which will trigger frigid temperatures, frost, as well as the fall of snow and sleet, mainly in the areas of the Sierra.
The above will be added to the entrance of the Fifth Winter Storm, which will travel through the southern United States, near the northwestern and northern border of Mexico.
The National Water Commission (Conagua) reported that from this Thursday minimum temperatures of -15 to -10 degrees Celsius are expected in the mountains of Chihuahua, and frost in mountainous regions.

During the course of this Thursday, the possibility of showers in the form of rain, sleet and snow is expected in mountain municipalities and in the north of the state.

While in the downtown area, it is expected that by the weekend temperatures of up to -7 degrees will be reached, with a thermal sensation of -10 degrees, warned the government of Chihuahua.

“Maybe it’s the coldest weekend of the year, so far this winter season,” government secretary César Jauregui Moreno warned at a press conference.
From this Thursday the area of the Sierra dawned almost completely snowy, and derived from this several sections of road were closed, such as Guadalupe and Calvo to Parral, Guachochi to Creel, Zaragoza-Buenaventura and Cuesta las emes.
Víctor Hugo Soza, subdelegate of the road police, said that a prevention operation is already prepared, with which eight pickup trucks were arranged, with two tons of salt, ready to spread on the roads that could be frozen.

Consequences: deaths and cancelled flights
The deputy director of epidemiology of the State Health Secretariat, Gúmaro Barrios Gallegos, reported that, so far, 31 events related to low temperatures have been registered, of which 13 have been deaths.
Of the 13 deaths reported, eight were from carbon monoxide poisoning – emitted by heaters – and five were caused by hypothermia.
As of Thursday, General Roberto Fierro International Airport has reported eight canceled flights: five departing and three arriving.
Airlines with cancelled flights are Volaris, American Airlines, Viva Aerobus, TAR Airlines.
On the other hand, the road sections that were temporarily closed were: Urique; San Rafael from kilometer 8 to 16; San Rafael-Bahuichivo road; in Guachochi of the Encino Gordo section; the road from Creel to Guachochi, the Samachique section to Aboreachi lagoon.
State Civil Protection also reported the closure of the Guachochi-Nonoava, Guachochi-Balleza, Guachochi-Creel, Guachochi-Yoquivo and Guachochi Baborigame sections.
The Ministry of Communications and Public Works, together with the State Coordination of Civil Protection, is working on its clearance and reopening of the closed sections, so it undertook a prevention operation in conjunction with the three levels of Government to act in those that have more affectations.
Precautions for citizens
Some of the preventive measures that PC issued include not overloading electrical outlets, properly ventilating homes while the heater is on, and driving carefully due to freezing streets.
However, at the press conference on the winter storm, authorities of the road police and the Civil Protection itself asked citizens not to leave their homes, if it is not strictly necessary.

Let’s keep the preventive measures, the cold will continue in the state. Together #CuidémonosDelFrío
