Minister Delgado: “For some things it seems that we have the power until March 11 and on the other hand we would have to ask everything”

The Minister of the Interior, Rodrigo Delgado, valued the appointment of Rosanna Costa as the new President of the Central Bank and took the opportunity to criticize the position of the incoming government for previous statements.
After several weeks of uncertainty, President Sebastián Piñera appointed Costa as the new head of the Issuing Institute, for the next 5 years.
In this regard, Minister Delgado said: “I am left with the words of ‘La Moneda Chica’, when they say that this President (Sebastián Piñera), this Minister of the Interior (Rodrigo Delgado) has the powers until March 11 in matters of security, in migration matters, in matters of borders.”
“If we have the power in matters of security and immigration matters until March 11, we will also have the power, which the President has, to appoint in this case Rossana Costa, a person who also has tremendous trajectory, a person who has all the credentials,” he added, despite the fact that both the President-elect, Gabriel Boric, as well as the future Minister of Finance, Mario Marcel, congratulated and celebrated the nomination of the new head of the issuer.
“For some things it seems that we have faculty until March 11 and for another we would have to ask everything. I think we have to be very clear about that, the power of the President is until March 11 and the appointment of Rossana Costa is a very good decision, “said the Secretary of State.
From La Moneda they assured that this appointment is a “recognition of their experience, trajectory, contribution to monetary policy, the control of inflation and the economic development of the country.”
The new president of the institution is a commercial engineer, with a major in economics from the Catholic University of Chile.
Since 2017 she served as a director of the Central Bank, and between 2010 and 2014 she was Director of Budgets of the Ministry of Finance.
Costa thus becomes the first woman to head the Central Bank, replacing the outgoing Mario Marcel, who will be integrated as Minister of Finance in the future government of Gabriel Boric.
