Sergio Chodos will participate in a G20 meeting in Indonesia

This week, the Argentine representative to the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Sergio Chodos, will be present at the G20 Finance Ministers’ Summit to be held in Indonesia. For his part, the Minister of Economy of the Nation, Martín Guzmán, will participate in the meeting virtually. Starting On Tuesday, meetings of representatives of the finance agencies and central banks of the G20 member countries and guests will take place in the city of Jakarta, where the presence of IMF directors is expected. Chodos’ participation in the meeting is a key piece for Argentina, due to its importance in the framework of negotiations with the international financial organization, to achieve a new agreement for the debt of US $ 44,000 million acquired by the government of former President Mauricio Macri. 

Previously, Argentina had submitted to member countries a request to suspend interest rate surcharges on IMF loan programs, and in October, during the last summit of presidents in Rome, the government’s request received the support of the group, where the IMF was called upon to review its policy of surcharges on exceptional loans. According to official sources, the government “works with the conviction that the necessary votes of the board will be obtained to approve the agreement.” Minister Guzmán will have the opportunity to participate in the G20 meetings in Indonesia remotely, as has happened on other occasions.
