Quintana Roo Governor Meets with FBI, DEA and Police

The governor of the Mexican state of Quintana Roo, Carlos Joaquin Gonzalez, and his security cabinet, met with authorities from the FBI, the DEA and the Canadian mounted police, in a meeting classified as “information exchange,” state authorities said. The meeting, in which representatives of Colombia and Argentina also participated, exchanged intelligence on the main criminals wanted in the different countries. The authorities of the state of Quintana Roo, Mexican Caribbean, indicated that the meeting is part of the joint work they have carried out for several months, within the framework of the Bicentennial Understanding, a new cooperation plan between Mexico and the United States for security, public health and safe communities. In addition, it was specified that the meeting “is not exclusively due to what happened in a hotel in Xcaret Mexico”, where two Canadian men were murdered, on January 21, “but it is a daily meeting of exchange of information”, which was held behind closed doors in the facilities of the Security Complex of Quintana Roo, known as C5. The International Meeting on Security matters was attended by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Agency (ATF), the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), the Canadian Mounted Police and security attachés from Australia and New Zealand and authorities from Quintana Roo. Lucio Hernandez; the Secretary of Government, Arturo Contreras; the Attorney General of the state, Óscar Montes de Oca, and the coordinator of the Security Council, Jesús Alberto Capella.De according to information issued by the Secretariat of Public Security of the state, as part of the agreements reached at the meeting, training will be provided such as identification of weapons and explosives, arms trafficking, among others, to police, prosecutors and investigators.
