Cafiero met with his South African counterpart to deepen trade

In the framework of the 49th session of the United Nations Human Rights Council, Argentine Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero held a working meeting with the Minister of International Relations and Cooperation of South Africa, Naledi Pandor, with whom he agreed to launch the next edition of the Argentina-South Africa Binational Commission (BICSSA). According to official information, the agreement reached between the two countries “allows for the deepening of bilateral cooperation in areas as diverse as human rights, science and technology, culture, agricultural issues and art and sports.” “This mechanism, added to the Joint Agricultural Committee, the implementation of the 2013 Agreement on Agriculture and the health negotiations, also allow us to address economic and commercial relations and the search for increased exchange and the opening of markets,” they explained from the Foreign Ministry. 

During the meeting, held on Monday in the Swiss city of Geneva, officials analyzed an agenda of issues related to relations in the field of high technology; space and nuclear cooperation. Regarding the technology sector, from the San Martín Palace they indicated that the objective is “to promote dialogue between the Argentine company INVAP and the South African National Space Agency (SANSA) in view of a future signing of a new Framework Cooperation Agreement that allows working on aspects such as earth observation, space weather, studies of distant space and possibilities in the industrial sector”. Likewise, for the nuclear field, it seeks to promote the entry into force of the Framework Agreement on Cooperation in the Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Energy and the possibility of encouraging the participation of national companies in South African bidding processes related to the activity.
