Six people died from the passage of a tornado in the United States

Four adults and two children died Saturday after a tornado that crossed Madison County in the state of Iowa, in the central United States, according to local authorities. Speaking to reporters, Diogenes Ayala, director of the county’s emergency service, said the massive storm caused “great damage to homes and property” and said “it’s the worst tornado anyone has seen in a long time.” Yesterday, the National Weather Service’s Des Moines city office said on social media that “the worst part has already passed for central Iowa,” adding that now, “storms are moving east.”

“The easternmost areas, including the des Moines metropolitan area, are safe,” the agency said. For his part, according to information from the AFP agency, Ayala warned that the tornado “is quite devastating for the community,” and explained that the rescue efforts would continue at night. Faced with this scenario, the governor of Iowa, Kim Reynolds, decreed a state of catastrophe for Madison County, with the aim of using public resources for the recovery of the area. Last December, five states in the country were devastated by dozens of tornadoes that left at least 79 dead in Kentucky and others dead in Tennessee, Arkansas, Missouri and Illinois.
