Chinese media deny finding of plane black box

Chinese media that had reported the discovery of the second black box of the plane crashed last Monday with 132 people on board in the south of the country have retracted the news, while the search continues. The finding was first reported by CAAC News, a media outlet run by the Civil Aviation Administration of China (CAAC) which was echoed by nationwide outlets such as the Global Times, before the original publisher removed the information from its social media accounts. According to the official Xinhua news agency, rescue teams are continuing to search for the second black box, which records technical information such as the plane’s route, speed, altitude and engine situation and could clarify why the Boeing 737-800 flying between the cities of Kunming (south) and Guangzhou (southeast) plunged to the ground in the Guangxi region at 14.38 local time (06.38 GMT) on Monday. no survivors have been found so far. The memory unit also suffered some damage, but remained intact.” Zhu warned that downloading and analyzing the data recorded in the first black box “will take time.” The plane, which according to some witnesses plunged “plummeting”, descended almost 8,000 meters in less than three minutes, according to the flight tracking portal FlightRadar24, for reasons still unknown. The plane, in service since June 2015 and operated by the local airline China Eastern, had passed all the revisions established by the regulations and that its technical state was “stable and normal” during takeoff, according to statements by a representative of the airline cited these days by the local press. At the moment, the rescue services of the aforementioned region have covered an area of about 46,000 square meters during their search and rescue work, during which some human remains and some parts of the plane have been found, among which is one of the engines, the state broadcaster CGTN reported on Thursday.
