Polish tennis player Iwa Swiatek claimed to be the new WTA world number one after her 6-2, 6-0 win over Switzerland’s Viktorija Golubic in the opening round of the WTA 1000 in Miami.Swiatek, currently in second place in the ladies’ rankings, secured her victory over Golubic (42nd) to be at the top of the women’s singles world rankings starting Monday, April 4, date in which the positions are updated and moment in which the Australian Ashleigh Barty, who occupied the first place, will definitively leave the WTA list, since she announced her retirement this week.

The Polish, born in Warsaw on May 31, 200.1 will be the first tennis player from her country, both in men and ladies, to reach the top of the world rankings in tennis. Swiatek, 20, has had a great start to the season, having been crowned in Doha and the WTA 1000 in Indian Wells last Sunday.
