It’s official: “It” prepares a prequel series for HBO Max and this said Andy Muschietti

It is confirmed. “It” prepares its prequel series for HBO Max, which will be temporarily set in 1960, decades before the events adapted in the first part released in 2017, directed by the Argentine filmmaker, Andy Muschietti, in work with the producer Bárbara Muschietti, who is also his sister.

The news began to circulate in the last hours, although the information remained in potential, which emerged from a recent report by The Ankler. However, the specialized magazine Variety soon returned official. And fundamentally, the director expressed himself about it from his social networks.

Andy Muschietti confirmed the return of “It” in a prequel series

“Ready to come back?” wrote Muschietti, confirming that he is behind the streaming network’s impending project. Remember that the platform brings together the contents of Warner Bros., the distribution company of the two films that the Argentine adapted in 2017 and 2019 on the best seller of Stephen King.
It will be called “Welcome to Derry,” as an invitation to the village to which Pennywise returns every 70 years, causing heinous crimes. In this way, the story will not only be set decades before the emblematic scene of the boat with Georgie dressed in a yellow raincoat, but will tell the origin of the dark creature.

As for the Muschietti, they will executive produce the project alongside Jason Fuchs, in addition to having worked on the development of the script. As for Andy, it is estimated that he could direct the first episode of the series, which is still unknown if he will again feature Bill Skarsgård as the clown.

Pennywise is back to tell his story

In times where cinema and series bet on remakes of classics, live action of their animated versions, or new installments that arrive decades later to continue their franchise (such as “Matrix Resurrections”, or the next “Gladiator 2”), it seems that the executives of HBO Max are interested in exploiting as much as possible of the universe that King wrote and the truth is that there is a lot of fabric to cut there.

It is that if you look, the novel has an extension of 1200 pages, where in addition to developing the adventures of the band of “losers” who grow up and return to their hometown to face the creature personified in a clown, other stories are narrated. Stories that perhaps, added to the creative look of its filmmakers, we will see on screen very soon.
