INAI, Liga MX and FMF will install a work table to analyze Fan ID in stadiums

The National Institute of Transparency, Access to Information and Protection of Personal Data (INAI), the Mexican Football Federation (FMF) and Liga MX will install a technical working table to analyze the implementation of the Fan ID system in stadiums.
After the violence that occurred at the La Corregidora stadium in Querétaro, Liga MX proposed measures such as the mandatory implementation of fan ID – an access card for the spectator – and the use of facial recognition systems to prevent violence and guarantee the safety of fans.
The INAI held a meeting with the president of the FMF, Yon de Luisa, and of the Liga MX, Mikel Arriola, to discuss the Fan ID system and the management that will be given to the personal databases of those attending football matches.

In the virtual meeting, they addressed the “Integral Project of Security in the Stadiums” and the so-called “Assistance to the Stadium” to look for routes to comply with the provisions of the Federal Law on Protection of Personal Data Held by Individuals (LFPDPPP).
“INAI and football officials will work together to implement these plans with full respect for data protection legislation,” the institute said in a statement.

The INAI has pointed out that the facial recognition system in football stadiums could put at risk the privacy and protection of personal data, mainly of children.
The LFPDPPP states in article 6 that those responsible for the processing of personal data must observe the principles of legality, consent, information, quality, purpose, loyalty, proportionality and responsibility.
