La Moneda reiterates negative against the fifth withdrawal of pension funds: “We are concerned about the inflationary situation”

The government reiterated its refusal to withdraw pension funds and instead promoted the package of measures of the “Chile Apoya” plan, which the cabinet will use as a guide to go out on a tour of regions.
The government spokeswoman Camila Vallejo, after a meeting with the cabinet and President Gabriel Boric himself in Barrio Yungay, said that “we are concerned about the inflationary situation, food prices and all the elements that are basic consumption and that are rising and we want not to contribute to that rise even more than projected in our country, because that hits families.”

Previously, when he was on his way to the meeting in Casona Compañía after an interview with Channel 13, the head of the Treasury, Mario Marcel, said that the approval of a new turn of the pension funds would “weaken” the national economy, so it could hinder the application of the government program and the measures they intend to implement as Executive.
“A new pension fund withdrawal, through the increase in interest rates, means that the State has to pay more for its debt,” said the head of the fiscal wallet. “This means a permanent increase in interest payments by the State, of 2,500 million dollars,” Mario Marcel added.
Minister Marcel pointed out that “of course that means that the economy is going to be weaker, it is going to face higher inflation, it is going to have a financial sector in tension, there are going to be fewer fiscal resources.” “All those things, of course, that hinder the government program,” said the head of Teatinos 120.
It is worth mentioning that the Constitution Commission of the Chamber of Deputies is finalizing the merger of the different projects of the fifth withdrawal from the AFP and the final result will be voted on next Tuesday, April 12.
“We have been working on the Chile Apoya plan before taking office, thinking about the urgency, and that is why we also presented the programs in terms of care, especially for women and some lagging sectors. That is what we want to communicate and also with measures that seek to mitigate the increase in the cost of living, “added Minister Camila Vallejo.
