Drought and water crisis: expectations of the Regional Government for the visit of President Boric to the region of Coquimbo

President Gabriel Boric will begin his first national tour on Thursday, which will begin in the Coquimbo region, where he will arrive after noon. Local authorities, such as regional governor Krist Naranjo, expect the president to address issues such as drought and water scarcity.
“There are several issues to see in our region, such as the water emergency, which urges us, because although a disaster zone was declared in December, there are no resources from the central level. So, we are hopeful that in this visit some announcements can be made on his part,” Naranjo said in conversation with Emol.
Naranjo pointed out that they have been working with the Ministry of Agriculture “so that they can reach the most affected people with solutions, the agricultural and breeding people, who have a large number where they have made many requests and the previous government did not arrive with the resources to be able to assign them.”
The regional authority said that some communes “do not have water at this minute” and that from the Regional Government they have been “enabling wells, assigning tanker trucks, buying water. We are working together, with the idea that they can help us with the families that are being affected.”
Naranjo also hopes that the president will address issues related to mobility and housing. “We have many problems and we must reinforce with roads the pending issues of connectivity. There are also housing issues, unfortunately we have a great demand from previous years and there we want to arrive in a better way and we have spoken with the Minister of Housing to resolve, “he said.
Boric’s Journey
The president will travel to the region with a delegation of 20 people, which includes first lady Irina Karamanos.
During this Thursday, the head of state will head the regional cabinet, visit the San Pablo Hospital in Coquimbo and meet with gastronomic tenants within the framework of the implementation of the Chile Apoya Plan.
Your stay in the region will be three days.
