AMLO cancels meeting with activists who are against the Mayan Train

President Andrés Manuel López Obrador canceled the meeting he had planned with environmentalists, activists and artists who oppose the construction of the Mayan Train, arguing that some of them would not go to the National Palace.
“Regarding the meeting between President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and artists from #SélvameDelTren to discuss the Mayan Train, several of the guests have publicly declared that they will not attend the National Palace. For this reason, the public is informed that such a meeting has been suspended,” the press release reads.
In the statement, the federal government reiterated its invitation to members of the #SélvameDelTren campaign to visit the region where section 5 of the Mayan Train, which goes from Cancun to Tulum, is projected, and talk to the inhabitants, families and ejidatarios to verify that the project is endorsed by the community.

This, after artists and activists accepted the invitation that López Obrador made to the collective to dialogue about the fate of this project.
At first, the collective invited the president to go to the area where they are building the train; however, AMLO refused to travel and in exchange offered them a meeting at the National Palace.
He explained that he would not attend the meeting in the area of the works because they have a “political or political” purpose and “I am not going to play into their hands.”

“If they come here (National Palace), here we attend them, I talk to them, but imagine attending to all those of the CIDE, or the whole group of Aguilar Camín or Krauze, when I am going to convince them,” he said.
Hours before the presidential statement, it was announced that artists such as Eugenio Derbez would not attend the dialogue because they considered that it is a subject that only concerns experts.
