Río Negro: an operation begins to rescue a group of stallholders

The Secretariat of Civil Protection of Río Negro launched an operation to rescue a group of stallholders isolated by snow in the area of Chenqueniyen, near the city of Ñorquinco in the southern region. “A man gave notice about the situation of about five people who approximately ten days ago had gone up to the summers where they have positions to stay, to look for their animals and move them to the low-lying areas,” the official statement begins. As detailed from the Rio Negrino agency, before starting the transfer, the stallholders were surprised by the cold and snow storm that had been previously alerted and were unable to return. Faced with this situation and after receiving the alert, the personnel of the Directorate of Civil Protection Operations, the Mountain Patrol of the Rio Negro Police with seat in El Bolsón, and Firefighters of Ñorquinco, began this Saturday the rescue work with their vehicles, but without being able to reach the high area due to the amount of snow. Today, a new operation began with UTV vehicles, with special tracks to move in the snow and be able to access the area. The town of Ñorquinco is located in the southern region, 180 kilometers from San Carlos de Bariloche and 700 kilometers from Viedma. The area, which is accessed by provincial routes No. 6 and national route No. 40, is affected by a snowstorm.
