The SFP exempts AMLO and Daniel Chávez from a possible conflict of interest

The Secretariat of the Public Function (SFP) announced on Friday that it decided to exempt President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and businessman Daniel Chávez Morán from a possible conflict of interest.
In an information card, the agency in charge of monitoring the behavior of federal government officials and institutions said it investigated the case after it received a letter on February 15 accusing the president and the founder of Grupo Vidanta of acts of “conflict of interest, bribery and bribery.”
This letter reached the SFP in the midst of the controversy generated by the information disseminated by the Latinus portal and the organization Mexicans Against Corruption and Impunity (MCCI) about the houses in which José Ramón López Beltrán, the president’s eldest son, and his wife, Carolyn Adams, have lived in the United States.

The publication by Latinus and MCCI pointed to a possible conflict of interest, given that the couple had lived in a residence belonging to a director of the company Baker Hughes, a Pemex contractor. Lopez Beltran denied any wrongdoing and argued that all of his current income comes from his work as an attorney for KEI Partners.
However, opposition politicians and some public figures accused that there was also a possible conflict of interest, since two partners of that firm, Érika Chávez and Iván Chávez, are the children of Daniel Sánchez Morán, a businessman close to President López Obrador and who was even named “honorary supervisor” of the works of the Mayan Train, one of the priority projects of this administration.
The SFP said Friday that there is no evidence that any of those involved violated any rule.

“Based on the information obtained and the applicable legal framework, the investigation determined that no competent and conclusive evidence was found to prove the alleged commission of facts, acts or omissions likely to constitute any administrative fault attributable to the public servant (López Obrador) and individuals,” said the agency headed by Roberto Salcedo.
“The results obtained by the evidentiary means determined the following: It was proven that C. Daniel Chávez Morán, appointed as ‘honorary supervisor’ in the ‘Mayan Train’ project, did not receive or receive any salary, emolument, payment or remuneration from the Federal Public Administration, nor did he exercise the functions of the public servants designated in terms of the Law on Public Works and Services Related to Them. No irregularities were found in the legal acts related to the Vidanta Group and institutions of the Federal Government,” he added.

Regarding the sons of the president and the businessman, the SFP pointed out that it lacks competence to investigate legal acts outside the governmental sphere or outside Mexican territory.
“Based on the evidence, the General Directorate of Complaints and Investigations of the SFP issued the Conclusion Agreement for Lack of Elements, which was notified today,” he concluded.
