Government will send more flights to AIFA for air safety

In a meeting with the aeronautical authorities and the main airlines of the country, the federal government agreed to order the airport system of the Valley of Mexico, with a view to recovering the category 1 of air safety granted by the Federal Aviation Association of the United States (FAA, for its acronym in English).
Among the agreements reached, the increase in efforts by the government to recover category 1, lost last year after an audit in which the FAA found several areas where international standards were not met, stands out.
According to the Ministry of the Interior (Segob), which issued a statement on the meeting, this achievement will allow national airlines to expand their offer of services from the country and from abroad.

This comes days after an incident was recorded at the International Airport of Mexico City (AICM), in which a plane of the airline Volaris was ordered to land on a runway where there was another aircraft parked. This event is added to a list of 30 reports of air incidents made by the National Union of Air Traffic Controllers (Sinacta).

Another aspect that was agreed was a significant increase in the offer of flights to and from the Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA), with the aim of exceeding 100 daily operations. This plan will be divided into two stages, starting on August 15 and then on September 15.
This will not affect the operations of the AICM, since, according to the federal government, there is no decree that proposes restricting flights in this terminal.
In addition, the offer of services to AICM passengers will be maintained, since national and international airlines will continue with their respective landing and takeoff schedules, which were assigned to them for the summer 2022 season.
However, at the meeting it was established that no new incoming flights to the capital airport will be authorized and an increase in operations will not be allowed more than those already assigned for this season.
Aeromexico to Announce More Flights to AIFA
The airline acknowledged the agreements made with the Ministry of the Interior and confirmed that by August it will increase its operations at Felipe Angeles Airport.
“Starting in the second half of August, we will increase our flights to and from Felipe Angeles International Airport (AIFA) and by the end of October we will be carrying out 30 daily operations, thus offering 1.5 million seats during the following calendar year,” Aeromexico said in a statement.
He also said that “in the near future” he will report the details of the additional flights to the AIFA.

On the other hand, the authorities announced that domestic charter and cargo operations will be transferred to AIFA. They estimated that in a period of three months the fiscal and customs infrastructure will be installed to be able to receive international cargo flights.
Airlines that operate in the AICM but have more than a year accumulated airport debts, fuel, taxes and duties, among others, must also migrate. They will not be able to continue their flights and must move to Saint Lucia.
