Nuevo León reports 4 cases

The Ministry of Health of Nuevo León reported that it already has a record of four cases of childhood hepatitis, which are being monitored to see the evolution of patients.
“In Nuevo León we have received the report of four patients in our different public and private institutions. So far all stable. They are children of different ages,” said Ana Rosa Marroquín Escamilla, head of the Ministry of Health.

Prior to the notification of the cases, the Ministry of Health issued the epidemiological notice to ask all health units to be alert, report any probable infection of this type and send the corresponding sample for study to the National Institute of Diagnosis and Epidemiological Reference (InDRE).
As of May 3, the World Health Organization (WHO) reported that 228 cases of severe acute childhood hepatitis, and four deaths, have been reported worldwide in about twenty countries, so it described the disease as an issue of absolute priority.

“This is severe hepatitis that can lead to death. 10% of the children who have contracted it have needed a transplant,” explains Alejandro Macías, an infectologist and former influenza commissioner.
Scientists and health authorities still do not know what type of pathogen causes this infection, so a new disease is suspected.
