Cafiero: “We have a friendly, peaceful and dignified foreign policy”

Foreign Minister Santiago Cafiero said that the tour made by President Alberto Fernández through Spain, Germany and France constitutes “another example of the diversity” that Argentina’s foreign policy has. We have the ability to talk to all actors because we have a friendly, peaceful and dignified foreign policy,” Cafiero said in communication with Radio Mitre. In this regard, the official affirmed that it was a “very important” trip, and stressed that Fernández was the first Latin American president to be received by german Chancellor Olaf Scholz. We are very satisfied with the tour which is another example of the diversity of our foreign policy,” he said. Likewise, Cafiero explained that the Argentine president was the first head of state received by Emmanuel Macron, re-elected president of France, after his electoral triumph achieved on April 24 in the runoff against the candidate Marine Le Pen. I think that clearly speaks to the fact that it is not necessary to hand over the country or indebted it so that they pay attention to one as they previously thought with the administration of Mauricio Macri. We need to have a dignified foreign policy,” he said. On the other hand, the foreign minister pointed out that the war between Ukraine and Russia occupied a large part of the agenda that Fernández dealt with in his tour of the three countries, and explained that Argentina “went to raise its position” as the Latin American voice, highlighting the president’s presidency in the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) and his representation to the “32 countries of the region.” It was raised how the effects of the war are impacting on Latin American and Caribbean territory geographically distant. There was a sensitivity because many countries gave humanitarian visas to receive Ukrainian refugees. Argentina is the country that has brought the most donations to the country of conflict,” he added. In addition, Cafiero affirmed that there were “immediate economic effects” on food and energy and that it is necessary to “seek a solution that involves other actors” for the global consequences that the war has, and called for “working globally to achieve a ceasefire.” Argentina’s position was expressed and there is no doubt. At the opening of the UN Human Rights Council on February 28, I expressed a firm condemnation of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. Throughout the escalation process, Argentina promoted that the conflict be de-escalated and that the parties sit at a negotiating table. Argentina is a peaceful land and promotes a peaceful world,” added the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Worship of the Nation.
