At least ten people were killed Saturday when a man opened fire at a food store in Buffalo, New York, The Buffalo News reported, citing law enforcement sources.
At least five lifeless bodies were found in the car parking area, as well as several people inside the store.
A police source told the newspaper that the shooter had a camera and body armor wearing a military helmet.
“Ten people were killed by a man covered in armor and armed with a very powerful rifle, and three others were injured; two of them serious,” the newspaper quoted a police officer present at the scene and another source close to authorities as saying.
The FBI said it is investigating as a “hate crime” the shooting that left 10 people dead.
“We investigated this incident as a hate crime and a case of racist extremism violence,” Stephen Belongia, a special agent with the FBI’s Buffalo office, told reporters.
The Buffalo Police Department tweeted at 3:26 p.m. (19:26 GMT) that officers were “at the scene of the mass shooting at Tops,” the food store, and that the shooter was in custody.
