Peruvian government promises “not to have contemplations” with crime

Peruvian Prime Minister Anibal Torres said Wednesday that the government of the Andean country will not contemplate crime and promised that the Defense and Interior ministries will intensify their activities.
“We have to ensure citizen security because without it no other activity takes place. With crime we cannot have contemplations,” Torres said after a session of the Council of Ministers.
He also commented that the work of the ministers of Defense and interior in a coordinated manner will seek “that the declaration of emergency” in Lima and its neighboring province of Callao “is a reality and allows to combat crime thoroughly.”
The Government of Peru declared a state of emergency in Lima and Callao in February, a measure initially scheduled for 45 days in the face of the increase in crimes and criminal acts.
In March, the government published a supreme decree in the official newspaper El Peruano by which it established an extension of 45 days that counted from March 20.
In this regard, Torres explained that, “to combat crime,” the Executive will “adopt all the measures that are at its disposal.”
“Among them, encourage the participation of citizens through neighborhood councils, with the cooperation and assistance of the Ministry of the Interior,” he said.
