On election day, Mexico registers 86 murders, 17 only in Chihuahua

During this Sunday, June 5, when six states had elections to renew governorship, 86 murders were registered throughout the country, according to the daily security report prepared by the federal government.
The figure of 86 intentional homicides exceeds the daily average recorded during May, when they were almost 80 a day.
Of the total counted this Sunday, only in Chihuahua 17 murders were committed, according to the report prepared by various federal instances.

Chihuahua was followed by the State of Mexico with nine, Guanajuato and Jalisco, with eight each, and Sonora with six. In none of those states were there elections yesterday.
Of the entities that did have elections, there were only murders in Hidalgo, with one, and in Oaxaca, with three. 
Aguascalientes, Durango, Quintana Roo and Tamaulipas did not report such crimes.

According to the federal government’s daily report, in the first five days of June there were 369 intentional homicides.
Despite these numbers, the administration of President Andrés Manuel López Obrador assures that its strategy is yielding results and that combating poverty as a root of insecurity will bear fruit.
