Relatives place nearby with photographs in La Palma

Relatives of missing persons placed a fence with photographs of their loved ones in what was formerly the Glorieta de la Palma.

The idea of making a stronger intervention in the area is to prevent the Mexico City government from removing the photographs, as it has done in recent weeks.

“We continue with the repair work in the Glorieta de las y los desaparecidos, we will place a more durable fence. We accompany to make the space our own”.

Prior to the installation of the fence, the collective had already placed images when the capital authorities received the ahuehuete that replaced the emblematic palm that for years represented the place. However, these were withdrawn by the authorities.

After placing the photographs, they went to the Glorieta de las Mujeres que luchan, where activists have denounced the arrival of construction material to supposedly destroy the antimonumenta that was placed in the place. Previously the place was known as the Glorieta de Colón.

This is not the first time that groups and relatives take the roundabout, because since May 8, prior to the demonstrations planned for Mother’s Day, families placed photos in the then called Glorieta de la Palma and the government removed the images the next day, which caused annoyance among citizens.
Missing: More than 100 thousand
According to data collected by the National Search Commission (CNB) in the National Registry of Missing and Missing Persons (RNPDNO), Mexico reached more than 100,000 disappeared people.
This, in a context in which several mechanisms provided for by the General Law on the matter – of 2017 – have not been put in place and while international bodies point out the prevalence of impunity around the issue.
The RNPDNO considers persons missing and not located throughout the country since March 15, 1964. According to this accounting, 88,598 remain with the status of disappeared, that is, when it is presumed that this fact is definitively related to the commission of a crime, and 11,394 with that of not located.
