Jalisco detects 5 cases of monkeypox; alert health units

The Ministry of Health of Jalisco reported the detection of 5 confirmed cases of monkeypox in the state.
According to state authorities, out of 7 suspected cases, only two were ruled out. However, they have already treated 41 people, and 44 are being followed up medically to prevent possible spread.
Of the confirmed cases, 4 were detected in foreign men, in fact the first of them corresponds to the U.S. citizen who was diagnosed after several days of stay in Puerto Vallarta, and who later decided to return to his country, so authorities said they did not know his current status.

The second case is a 40-year-old man, who began with symptoms on June 7 and was also diagnosed in Puerto Vallarta; his condition is stable and improving.

The third case is a 46-year-old Mexican citizen who was in contact with visitors from Las Vegas, United States, and on beaches in Guayabitos, Nayarit.

A 38-year-old man and Mexican nationalized is the fourth case with a history also in Puerto Vallarta and with onset of symptoms on June 2.
The most recent case is of a 54-year-old man from Sweden visiting Puerto Vallarta with symptoms on June 12. He remains in home isolation, according to Jalisco authorities.
The first case of monkeypox in the country was confirmed last Saturday, May 28. It was a man who had traveled to the Netherlands and was treated in Mexico City, where he remained stable in preventive isolation, it was reported.
The disease has been present in Africa for decades. However, this year hundreds of cases have been detected mainly in European countries. According to specialists, it is a disease with low transmissibility and lethality, so it is possible to prevent its expansion if sanitary measures are taken.
