Eight defendants in Maradona’s death will go to trial

The Argentine justice took to oral trial the file of the eight health professionals accused of criminal negligence and malpractice in the death of football sports idol Diego Maradona, according to the court ruling released on Wednesday.
In his ruling, Judge Orlando Díaz questioned “the conduct that each of the incusos (accused) would have deployed, not complying with the mandate to act that good medical practice placed in their heads.”
Maradona, considered one of the best footballers in history and emblem of the Argentine national team, died at the age of 60 on November 25, 2020, convalescing from surgery for a bruise on his head suffered in a home accident.
The world champion in Mexico 1986 suffered from alcohol addiction. He had been admitted to a clinic in La Plata on November 2, 2020 for anemia and dehydration and a day later he was transferred to a sanatorium in the Buenos Aires town of Olivos, where he underwent surgery.
The oral trial still has no date after the investigation of prosecutors, who accuse medical and nursing personnel of “simple homicide with eventual intent”, a crime that in Argentina contemplates prison sentences of eight to 25 years.
