Xcalac, Quintana Roo: 8 people are kidnapped

Eight people were kidnapped this week in Xcalac, in Quintana Roo, within an area with significant drug trafficking activity, state Attorney General Oscar Montes de Oca said Friday.
In recent hours, the prosecutor’s office has been receiving complaints from the families of those affected, which so far number seven.
“It is the data we have (of eight kidnapped), so far, only seven complaints have been received from relatives for the absence, the disappearance of these victims,” the prosecutor said this afternoon in an interview with radio station Radio Fórmula.

The people deprived of their liberty had been hired a month and a half ago to take care of a ranch in the region, the official said.
These events occur in an area that the prosecutor described as “criminogenic.” He explained that there is a relevant activity of drug trafficking groups, which, he said, is reflected in the fact that authorities recently found 25 kilos of drugs there.

The prosecution considers it likely that the kidnapping of the caregivers was carried out by a drug cartel, although the prosecutor declined to give more details.
He said security forces are currently flying over the area.
Quintana Roo has recorded numerous acts of violence so far this year, including the discovery of bodies, shootings near hotels, bars and other tourist spots and murders.
Between January and May 2022, the state registered 238 intentional homicides and five femicides, according to the most recent figures from the Executive Secretariat of the National Public Security System (SESNSP).
