Mothers of victims demand to maintain Glorieta de las Mujeres que Luchan

Mothers of victims of femicide and survivors of sexist violence complained to the government of Claudia Sheinbaum that they had not been taken into account to choose the sculpture that will replace that of Christopher Columbus in the roundabout of Paseo de la Reforma. In addition, they again demanded that the space they renamed the Glorieta de las Mujeres que Luchan not be removed.
Before the media, they assured that they will defend the Glorieta de las Mujeres que Luchan, after the government announced that the sculpture representing an indigenous woman is ready and that the authorities plan to place in what was the Glorieta de Colón.
By reading a position, the mothers recalled that the space of the Glorieta de las Mujeres que Lucha was taken and renamed in September 2021 to claim the State its omission, as well as to give name and face to the victims of femicides in the city and in the country.

“We will defend our right to protest, memory, city and hope. This site is taken and, even if they ignore our pain, testimonies of life, our arguments, our voice will be heard loud and loud. You defend a figure without identity. We, on the other hand, give a deep meaning to the struggles of women, that once again we have to face the violence of being ignored and pretending to be erased,” they said.
They also called on the Government of Mexico City to visit the roundabout and the Garden of Memory, so that the authorities know their vocation and realize that the sculpture they want to put is destined for abandonment and oblivion.
“We urge them to dialogue, to know the vocation of the roundabout and not to continue proposing projects that are hostile, aggressive, and that no one will use and that will fall into abandonment, because they do not respect the citizen vocation,” they insisted.

The mothers pointed out that, during these 10 months of the Glorieta de las Mujeres que Luchan, the space has been taken to remember the victims of femicides, disappearance and sexist violence.
To that end, they have placed their names to express that they represent truncated life projects. The demonstrators also indicated that in this time they have carried out activities of memory, protest and reparation of the damage.
