Jalisco Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office Investigates Omissions in Case

Jalisco’s Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office has opened an investigation to review the actions or omissions of state and municipal public officials involved in the case of Luz Raquel Padilla, the 35-year-old woman killed in Zapopan this week.
In a statement, the institution reported that it is investigating the facts to determine possible responsibilities among public servants.
“Once the folder is integrated and the initial investigation is concluded, there will be elements to determine if acts or omissions constituting any of the crimes that correspond to investigate the Anti-Corruption Prosecutor’s Office occurred to proceed accordingly,” the prosecutor’s office said.

Luz Raquel died on Tuesday, July 19, from her injuries on Saturday, when a group of people threw gasoline at her and burned her.
Previously, the woman had reported being the target of threats and other aggressions by some of her neighbors, who – according to Luz herself – were upset with the noises made by her son, Bruno, an 11-year-old boy diagnosed with autism.
Testimonies from her close circle and civil organizations indicate that Luz only received a restraining order, but not a pulse of life (panic button) or another measure that could protect her from attacks.

Specialists consulted yesterday by Political Animal they also warn that neither she nor Bruno received support despite the child’s disability.
On Friday morning, the governor of Jalisco, Enrique Alfaro, rejected that the authorities have fallen into inaction in the case of Luz, whose murder has caused outrage and attracted national attention.
The case is being investigated by the Jalisco Prosecutor’s Office as a crime of femicide. So far, one person has been detained, although he is not linked to that crime itself but to previous threats.
