Will Smith apologized to Chris Rock and broke the silence with this video: “My behavior was unacceptable”

Will Smith broke the silence and publicly apologized to Chris Rock through a video, released through the last hours. After a few months in which he chose to keep a more reserved profile, the winner of the Academy Award for “King Richard”, said that during that period “he has been thinking a lot and working a lot”.

It was at this year’s 94th Academy Awards ceremony that he took the stage and beat the comedian, after he made an offensive comment in a jocular tone, directed at his wife, Jada Pinkett Smith, who has alopecia, characterized by hair loss.

“I was confused at the time. Everything was blurry. I contacted Chris and the message I got is that he’s not ready to talk. When he is, he will contact me. I want to tell you, Chris, that I apologize. My behavior was unacceptable and I’m here when you’re ready to speak,” Smith says.

In the video, the actor states that he is willing to answer the questions that were generated after the episode, after which the Hollywood Academy decided (after awarding him) that he will not be able to enter the Awards, or any of its events, for the next 10 years. I didn’t think about how many people I hurt at the time. We had a great relationship,” Smith continued while mentioning the bond that bound him to the comedian’s brother: “Tony Rock was someone close and this is probably irreparable.”

Apologizing to Jada Pinkett Smith, her children and colleagues present and academy award nominees, he said he won’t try “to download all of that right now.” “But I can tell all of you, there’s not a part of me that thinks that was the right way to behave at the time. No part of me thinks that’s the best way to handle disrespect or insult,” he said.

“Disappointing people is my main trauma. I hate when I disappoint people, so it hurts. If you are still there, I promise you that we will be able to be friends again,” he closed, as a message to his viewers.
