6 people arrested for falsifying Civil Registry documents

Six people were arrested for the alleged falsification of various official documents of the Civil Registry of Mexico City, the Attorney General’s Office of the country’s capital (FGJCDMX) reported on Friday.
Of the detainees, four are active officials within the Civil Registry itself and the remaining two are individuals, said the spokesman of the FGJCDMX, Ulises Lara, in a message to the media.
The detained public servants were identified as Roberto “N”, Alma Karen “N”, Guadalupe “N” and Gerardo “N”. All of them are accused of the crimes of falsification of documents, illegal exercise of public service and criminal association.

As for the individuals, these are Francisco Javier “N”, indicated as the owner of a stationery store, and Beatriz “N”, a former official. They are accused of falsifying documents and criminal association.
Lara said in his message that the apprehension of these people was achieved after investigations by the capital prosecutor’s office, which obtained court orders to intercept communications and carry out searches.
From these inquiries, the authorities detected alleged collusion between Civil Registry officials and managers known as “coyotes”.

The spokesman for the prosecutor’s office also said that the institution is continuing its investigations in search of other people possibly involved in these crimes.

Moments before the message of the FGJCDMX, the head of the capital government, Claudia Sheinbaum, and the local legal advisor, Néstor Vargas, also spoke about the issue. They pointed out that the arrests of those involved are part of actions to “cleanse” the Civil Registry of corruption.
“I can tell you that they were people who worked in the Civil Registry for many years, who had saved folios of birth certificates, death certificates, linked to a business that was outside the Civil Registry, which carried out a part of all these operations linked to the administration of the database of the Civil Registry itself,” Sheinbaum said of the case.
