Inflation reaches 8.62% in the first half of August: Inegi

In Mexico, annual headline inflation in the first half of August was 8.62%, its highest level since the second half of December 2000, when it stood at 8.87%.
Likewise, inflation exceeded market expectations as the Bank of Mexico (Banxico) announced a new increase in the interest rate, in another attempt to contain inflation in the country. The increase was again 75 basis points, bringing the rate to 8.50%.
According to the National Institute of Statistics and Geography (Inegi), during the same fortnight of 2021, annual inflation was 5.58%.

In the first half of August 2022, the INPC increased .42% compared to the previous fortnight, while in the same period of 2021 it fell .02%.

Inegi inflation report
In the statement of the Inegi, it is highlighted that some of the main products with rising prices are onions, lunch boxes, inns, taquerias, corn tortilla, own housing, packaged soft drinks, potato and other tubers and pasteurized and fresh milk.
While in the products with falling prices, avocado, chicken, egg, bananas, chayote, serrano chili and nopales stand out.
The states with variation above the national average of inflation were Puebla, San Luis Potosí, Sinaloa, Yucatán and Chiapas.

The states below the national average are Michoacán, Quintana Roo, Tlaxcala, Guanajuato and Campeche.
In addition, it is mentioned that the Price Index of the Minimum Consumption Basket increased .61% fortnightly and 9.48% at an annual rate.
