UK: Boris Johnson’s successor to be announced at a ceremony on the morning of September 5

The winner of the British Conservative Party primaries, which will succeed Boris Johnson as prime minister of the United Kingdom, will be announced at a ceremony on September 5, according to the president of the formation, Andrew Stephenson.
In a letter to Tory MPs, Stephenson said the exact location of the ceremony at which the next prime minister’s name will be announced will be notified 48 hours in advance and encouraged them to attend the last campaign rally of the two hopefuls on August 31 in London.
In 2019, when Johnson overtook rival Jeremy Hunt to take over the leadership of the Conservatives, the event was held at the Queen Eliabeth II Convention Centre, opposite the Palace of Westminster.
According to polls, Truss has an overwhelming lead to be the next Tory leader and inherit the official Office of Downing Street.
Sunak, for his part, seemed to rule out today in an interview that he aspires to be among the ministers that his rival will appoint in case his victory is confirmed.
Asked on the BBC if he would consider being part of a cabinet led by Truss, the former minister laughed and replied: “I’m not focused on that and, frankly, I doubt Liz is.”
In his last two weeks as chief executive, Johnson, who has just returned from a holiday in Greece, will split his time between the chequers country residence and Downing Street, his official spokesman said on Monday.

His work will be focused on continuing to organize support for Ukraine in the war against Russia and measures against the rising cost of living, the spokesman added.
